Geolocation in telecom is underutilized

One of our key takeaways from MWC is that telecom geolocation continues to be a missed opportunity.

Telecom companies have direct access to vast geolocation data, not because they want to mine consumers data, but because they efficiently need to obtain it to provide quality voice and internet connections.

Despite this, most MNOs / MVNOs still depend on third-party OTT services to provide geolocation services, rather than fully leveraging their own assets.

This represents a major opportunity to differentiate services, generate customer loyalty ensuring their privacy, enhance data sovereignty, optimize device battery life, and unlock new revenue streams in areas like emergency services, IoT device positioning, geo-relevant retail offers, and even lawful interception, security and surveillance services.

By leveraging their native geolocation capabilities, telecoms can strengthen their competitive position and drive new business models, which are evident needs in the telecom industry.
